URGENT SUSPECTED CANCER SERVICES – LUNG

Indications for an urgent referral for a suspected new malignancy are (see NICE Guidance link)

Chest X-ray

  • Suggestive of lung cancer
  • Unilateral pleural effusion 
  • Non-resolving consolidation within 6 weeks
  • Normal chest X-Ray with high suspicion of lung cancer/ mesothelioma
  • Unexplained haemoptysis (> 40 years)
  • Abnormal scan elsewhere

Pre-investigations required of G.P: Chest x-ray, U&E’s within 3 months
