- Consideration of anti-reflux surgery for failed medical management (or failed previous surgery)
- Opinion for hiatus hernia surgery
- Opinion for surgery or endoscopic management for achalasia
- Uncomplicated gallstone disease (complicated would be HPB, including gallbladder polyps). Suggest LFT’s and abdo USS in advance of referral
- Abdominal wall and groin hernias: suggest groin USS if not clear
- Upper GI cancer surgery (but 2WW / USC referrals are separate formal pathway)

- Request for OGD (gastroscopy)
- Medical management of gastro-oesophageal reflux
- Chronic weight loss/nutritional disorders/dietitian advice
- Lower GI conditions
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- IBS/GI dysfunction syndrome
- Coeliac disease
- Eating Disorders
- Paediatric patients
- Thyroid problems
- Vascular surgery
- Colorectal surgery
- Pancreas conditions (including IPMN – Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm)
- Liver conditions
- Gallbladder Polyps
- Bariatrics (refer to separate Bariatric Surgery team)
Referral Criteria
- Up to date patient demographics including correct full name, address, contact numbers (including mobile)
- Details of current condition and any relevant medical and/or past surgical history
- A list of current medications
- Up-to-date weight and BMI (some upper GI benign surgery have BMI thresholds)
- Any additional scans and /or investigation results relevant to the condition
- Known allergies
- Any special requirements that the patient has e.g. known disabilities
